Entropy

2023

Acrylic on canvas

40 × 40 in.

Entropy began with a question that has followed me throughout my life: How does creation emerge from chaos?

White and yellow lines burst from a dark center, crossing layered vertical passages of violet, gray, and earth tones. Scattered points and star-like forms carry that movement across the canvas. The outward energy disrupts the underlying structure without entirely erasing it.

My life has been shaped by movement across continents, loss, and rebuilding. These experiences inform my use of entropy as a metaphor for the unsettling of familiar order. I am interested in what becomes possible after disruption, while recognizing that what is lost cannot always be replaced.

The central burst represents hope: the impulse to create when stability has been shaken. Darkness remains within and around it. For me, that coexistence matters. Renewal does not erase difficulty; it takes shape alongside its traces.

Entropy holds my belief that even in apparent disorder, there is the possibility of beginning again.
