In Pouring Rain, I explore how repeated experiences leave their traces upon us. Vertical streams of white and vivid color cross a muted, layered ground, suggesting a landscape seen through rainfall—partly revealed, partly obscured.
The repeated marks establish a rhythm, but each carries a different weight. Some remain bright and distinct; others recede into the surrounding texture. I see in these differences an echo of memory: certain experiences stay close to the surface, while others become inseparable from the background of our lives.
Rain cools, soaks, drenches, nourishes, revives, roots and uproots. It sustains growth, yet its force can loosen the very ground that holds us. This tension runs through the painting, where falling lines both connect and interrupt the colors beneath them.
The yellow and blue passages sustain a sense of vitality within that uncertainty. Through their presence, I consider what it means to endure—to remain sensitive and alive while being continually changed by what passes through our lives.
