The North Star

In The North Star, I explore the search for direction when familiar landmarks no longer offer certainty. A dark star anchors a layered field of turquoise, white, orange, and ochre. Its concentrated shape gives the eye a place to return amid the broken vertical marks and shifting color.
The star offers guidance without the brightness we might expect. Its presence suggests an internal compass: something we turn toward even when the way ahead remains unclear. Around it, colors emerge through one another, creating a surface in which no single layer fully disappears.
I am interested in the difference between having a point of reference and knowing where a journey will lead. The star provides a center, but the surrounding space remains unsettled. The painting holds that tension between the need for direction and the uncertainty through which we move.
